Yes I know it’s not the RS.

Another thing that bugged me about the Lego GT3RS trans was that you could pull the upshift paddle forever and it would just cycle through the gears.

Kinja'd!!!

Top left: 1st) Top right: 2nd) Bottom left: 3rd) Bottom right: 4th

This is because the shifting is done off of an axle with these little “cams” for lack of a better term. From the instructions, there is no way to stop the rotation at 4th gear, allowing you to go from 4th to 1st and then to 4th again with just a pull on the downshift paddle.

Don’t worry because I’ve done something that Lego should have done in the first place.

Kinja'd!!!

There are other ways to make a piece to perform this task, but this is small, elegant, and very hard to spot.

Put that little bit that you’ve made in there and you’re good to go.

Kinja'd!!!

This is it in 1st. Notice how the little “cam” can’t rotate backwards, so the downshift paddle will do nothing.

Kinja'd!!!

And this is it in 4th. It can’t rotate any farther so you will have do downshift to go to any other gear.

So I hope this helps.

2nd and 3rd are also flipped by design. You can put them in the correct order by mirroring one of the steps with a minimal increase in friction.

That was the first transmission fix post I made.

I didn’t see that post. And looking through your posts I cannot find it.

I’m an idiot. I didn’t title it transmission fix. Here’s a link

And with regards to that there are rules as to what building techniques can be used in official sets as well as the tolerances required. The day gears provide larger tolerances and are capable of higher load. All of these things are taken into consideration in the design of a system such as the transmission.

I know that it was taken into consideration, but mine seems to shift more smoothly with less binding than before. Even with an electric drive motor.

Aside from that, everything else works I believe. I would still describe front aero as delicate and would recommend making a stand so it’s not resting on the suspension and the relatively wobbly Lego hubs. Oh and ummm.... Don’t try and put a hobby grade brushless system in it. Doesn’t work as well as you think.

I’ll make sure to build a stand underneath! This thing is crazy heavy. Thanks for all the tips man!

No problem. I’ve just put some 15l beams under the technic rectangles with some rounded plates on the bottom to not scratch the shelves. Worked great so far. If I find another problem I’ll pass a fix your way. Maybe next project would be to make the suspension more realistic in its geometry.

Perhaps not as elegant as yours, or as strong, but this is what I had laying around my parts bin. So far it has held up!

Did you have any missing pieces? There were two missing from my set. One of those 4x1 steering rack pieces that are used for the radiator grille, and one connector piece used under the seat. I know lego will send them to me but it’s still annoying.
